How to Care for Metallic and Mirror-Finish Brogues

Metallic and mirror-finish shoes benefit from gentle handling. Remove surface dust with a soft dry cloth, avoid abrasive products and store the shoes away from prolonged moisture, heat and contact with rough surfaces.

How should metallic brogues be cleaned?

Begin with a clean, soft and dry cloth. Wipe the upper lightly rather than scrubbing it. If a mark does not lift easily, stop before using a solvent, polish or household cleaner. Products formulated for ordinary leather may not be appropriate for a coated reflective surface.

What should be avoided?

  • Abrasive cloths, brushes and cleaning pads
  • Standard coloured shoe polish
  • Alcohol, acetone and household cleaning sprays
  • Prolonged exposure to rain or standing water
  • Direct heat from radiators, heaters or hair dryers
  • Storage where the uppers rub against buckles, rough soles or other hard objects

How should the shoes be stored?

Allow the shoes to dry naturally after wear. Store each shoe so its finished upper is protected from abrasion. Keep the pair away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Supporting the shape with suitable shoe trees or clean, unprinted tissue can help the upper retain its form.

Will a reflective finish change with wear?

Any high-shine surface can record wear more visibly than a matt material. Creasing at flex points and small surface marks are possible as the shoe is worn. Gentle use and protected storage reduce avoidable damage, but they cannot make a worn shoe remain identical to an unworn one.

What about leather designs?

Material differs across the collection. The main metallic styles use a PU upper with a leather lining and leather sole. The white and porcelain styles use leather uppers. Always follow the material information on the individual product page, and contact the studio before applying any treatment if you are uncertain.
