Independent footwear and objects

The studio began with a practical problem: the shoes the designer wanted to wear were difficult to find, particularly in the right shapes, finishes and sizes. Without formal shoemaking training, the work developed through drawing, trial, error and collaboration with specialist makers.

The result is a body of footwear that treats familiar forms as a starting point. Classic brogues and bowling shoes are recast in mirror metallics, holographic surfaces, porcelain patterns and laser-etched imagery. The approach has been described by the designer as slightly dark, slightly surreal, ambiguous, androgynous, sometimes grimy and sometimes polished.

The wider practice continues across clothing, objects and audiovisual experiments, including image-forming patchwork, trunk bags and software for composing sound through moving images. These projects share an interest in materials, perception and forms that reveal themselves differently at different distances.

The name

Existing footwear is signed LUKE GRANT-MULLER, the name under which the original collections were designed and presented. The current studio identity is evolving, while that signature remains part of the objects and their history.

Selected history

The footwear has been exhibited at London Fashion Week and used on the London Fashion Week catwalks of Fyodor Golan and Ashley Isham. This history is documented in the Archive rather than repeated throughout the shop.
